Race Recap: 24 Hours of Dubai

Mikey Delivers in Dubai 24HR Race Debut Despite Setbacks

Mikey made an impressive Middle East debut at the Dubai Autodrome this weekend, competing in the prestigious 24 Hours of Dubai event with Optimum Motorsport. Sharing their McLaren 720S GT3 with teammates Tom Ikin, Benji Goethe, and Morgan Tillbrook.

Qualifying saw the team secure a respectable P11 on the grid, a strong position for their first 24-hour race. The early stages of the event demonstrated their potential, with the McLaren consistently running in the Top 5, and challenging for a podium position.

An incident in the refueling area caused damage to the car, which was compounded later by a transmission failure. These issues forced the team to spend an extended period in the pits, dropping them to the back of the pack. Despite these setbacks, the determination of the team was evident as they worked tirelessly to repair the car and get it back on track.

Once back in the race, all four drivers showed impressive pace, keeping up with the front runners. However, with several laps lost due to repairs, climbing back up the leaderboard was not possible.

Reflecting on the weekend, Porter and his teammates expressed pride in their performance and resilience. The team now shifts its focus to the upcoming Abu Dhabi 6 Hours at Yas Marina, where they aim to build on the experience gained in Dubai and achieve a stronger result.
